Chulu East Peak Climbing Overview

Chulu East Peak Climbing in 2026 is the prominent peak in the Chulu range, within the Annapurna massif, and also part of the larger Damodar Himal. It is one of the most gorgeous and frequently climbed peaks above 6000 m. Located in the upper part of the beautiful Manang Valley, the trek to this stunning peak is combined with the Annapurna Circuit Trek, taking the travelers into rich villages inhabited by Gurungs, Sherpas, Thakalis, Mananges, and Tibetan immigrants. Frequently Asked Questions

I am considering to climb some 6,000 m. peak in Nepal. Is Chulu East a good choice for the first 6,000 m peak to climb?

Chulu East (6,584 m / 21,601ft) can be an ideal mountain for even beginners looking to start Himalayan climbing journey with guided support and if you are strong trekker. It is bit technical (said moderate) by Himalayan standards, meaning it does not require advanced mountaineering experience. The route to Chulu East is well established, with teahouse lodges available until very close to Base Camp in famous Annapurna circuit trekking trail. It thus provides rewarding trekking and climbing experience together. But, remember this is not easy to climb as the altitude is high, long summit days, and can meet with harsh weather conditions in summit.

What is the difficulty level of climbing Chulu East?

Some Himalayan peaks around 6,000 m are categorized as trekking peaks by Nepal government. This means they are smaller and generally easier to climb compared to dozens of 7,000 m and 8,000 m peaks in the country. Chulu East is considered an easy trekking peak with low-technical elements, required no advanced rock or ice climbing skills. The climb, though, involves some mountaineering skills.

What are accommodation options in Chulu East Base Camp and high camp?

In Chulu East, Ngwal is last town where tea house/lodge accommodation is available and we use the same. From this village you hike up to slope towards the peak and pitch Base camp at 4,500 m/ 14,763 ft, where you sleep at tented camp. We pitch high-quality tents and provide high-altitude standard mattresses and sleeping mats for your good sleep and rest in Base Camp and high-camp at 5,400 m/17,717ft. You spend maximum of four nights in tent that includes acclimatization day.
